Anyone who enjoys reading will probably agree with me when I say, that stumbling upon an unforeseen magnificent story is one of life’s great rewards. Because no matter what the subject, it will take your nervous system captive like the release of endorphins coursing through your veins. Leaving you fevered and withdrawn when there are no pages left to turn. There are books, there are great books and then there are these. Consistently good writing isn’t always an easy find in the world of literature. But with Tom Robbins’ stories, the angles in which he sees love and it’s relation to the universe that aligns just to bring out that emotion. His heightened senses short of absolutely nothing, bares out in the only way you could ever call him consistent… unwaveringly, effortlessly and consistently brilliant.

He has been quoted as ‘one of the wildest and most entertaining novelists in the world’ Financial Times, and

Tom Robbins has a grasp on things that dazzles the brain and he’s also a world-class storyteller’, Thomas Pynchon.

I stumbled upon this Book called the ‘Still Life with Woodpecker’ a couple of years ago and after reading it I feel more attuned with life and what it’s really about. Or at least what life can really be like if you wear the right eyes. This story is like no other story by any other author you’ve ever read. I guarantee it. I’m not in a position to give a money back guarantee but if I was, then I would. This tale defines the difference between outlaws and criminals, highlighting codes of conduct and there crooked moral structure. It shows that lust can be a healthy part of love. Pinpointing human attraction and conflictions in incomparably vivid ways. It gives to characters that seem in the norm not to have any feasible relations, a feasibility. With the likes of Arabs, cheerleaders, redheaded aliens and princesses brought together in a way that seems perfectly natural after reading but impossible before. There is of course the woodpecker and the affects of the moon in day-to-day life. This story is a strange telling of a universe inside a pack of camel cigarettes. If dream like stories are your gig then dream no further.

Once bitten by this book I was affected, left obsessed, I have now read all his books. ‘Half asleep in frog pyjamas’ another of his works, about you the reader being the central character (a female stockbroker in training) in troubled times. She meets a man an oddball male who talks about space, Timbuktu, aliens and our relation with frogs.

‘Jitterbug Perfume’ a strange novel about an ex-king called Alobar who faked his death to avoid the real thing. He meets a young woman with a spiritual mentality and they fall in love. Alobar’s fear of aging takes them on a quest to find longevity. On the way they learn lots wonderful secrets about the world, learning to love the stink ridden Greek God Pan, how to make perfume and how could I forget? An odd but informative education about beets. Other books by Tom Robbins include:

‘Another Roadside attraction’

‘Even cowgirls get the blues’

‘Skinny legs and all’

‘Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climate’ and more.

Well this is a small expression and donation of my respect for Mr. Robbins for what he has given me and millions of others. I implore you take from this the good sense you all have to look down the rabbit hole and see where it leads you. Because you’ll always wonder if you don’t.

Joined HP in August last year, I love it, although don't get as much time to write as I would like. Painting is my first love, so that takes most of my time. Good luck on HP.

Actually I joined HP 2 months ago. I've joined a few things and sometimes it gets confusing. I think I started blogging last August. Not enough hours in the day to do all I want to!
